Wayne was born Dec. 12, 1934 at Lyons, NE to Frank and Elsie (Hendrickson) Rogers. He was baptized and confirmed at Divide Center Presbyterian Church, Lyons NE. He attended Divide Center Country School and graduated at the age of 16 from Lyons High School in 1951.  Following the sudden death of his father Wayne started farming and helping his mother raise his two younger brothers.  On June 28, 1953, he married Maxine Frances Darling at the Presbyterian Church in Lyons, NE.  Three daughters were born to this union.

Wayne and Max farmed 19 years near Lyons.  In 1970 they then moved to Ida Grove, IA where Wayne was employed by Farmers National Co. of Omaha as a Farm Manager.  In the late 70s, Wayne became a vice president and farm manager for Ida County State Bank in Ida Grove.  In the early 90s Wayne started his own real estate/appraisal business in Ida Grove.  He continued the appraisal business when they moved to Vermillion in October of 2009.  He continued his appraisal work until January of this year.

Over the years Wayne served on the Board of Directors of the Divide Center School in Lyons, Horn Memorial Hospital Board, Housing Authority Board and the Ida County Board of Review in Ida Grove.  He served in his churches as a trustee, elder, and on pastor search committees both in Lyons and Ida Grove.  Since coming to Vermillion he joined the Eagles Club.  He is a member of Masonic Lodge, Kane Lodge # 31, and a former member of the Kiwanis Club.  He remained a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Ida Grove and was attending First United Methodist Church in Yankton at the time of his death.

He was a lifelong Husker Fan and quickly became a USD Coyote Fan.  Some of his other favorite activities were watching his daughter play basketball and later his grandchildren participate in various sports.  He really enjoyed his time with his great-grandchildren as well.  His favorite get-away over the years was his many trips to the mountains in Colorado.  One of his most memorable trips to the mountains was for their 25th anniversary when they took the whole family in a motorhome.  Another very special trip was an Alaskan cruise for their 50th Anniversary in 2003.  Wayne had a great time with many coffee groups over the years and was always up for a good story.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Maxine, daughters, Marsha (Ron) Johnson of Yankton, Paula (Dave) Hultgren of Arnolds Park IA, and Linda Ferguson of Estes Park CO.
