LuVern Frances Swenson, 91, of Vermillion, passed away at the Sanford Vermillion Care Center of Vermillion on Saturday, June 23, 2012.
A funeral service was held at Dalesburg Lutheran Church at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 28, 2012, with Rev. Steve Martens officiating. Burial took place at the Black Hills National Cemetery in the Black Hills, South Dakota, the following day.
LuVern grew up on a farm in rural Dalesburg. She worked in Vermillion at the local courthouse and as a dental assistant. She married Robert Swenson in 1961 in DeSmet, and was a devoted wife to him. His job with the Soil Conservation Service led them to live in many places throughout the U.S., such as Parker; Texas; Arkansas; Huron; and finally Rapid City, where they stayed until his passing.
A few years after Robert's passing, LuVern moved back to Vermillion to stay with her sister, Hazel, until she moved into the Vermillion Care Center in 2008. While living in Vermillion, and throughout her life, LuVern remained a devoted member of Dalesburg Lutheran Church, regardless of where she lived.
LuVern is survived by her sister, Hazel Wherry; her cousins, Sigrid Nissen, and Eleanor Vee; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Anna (Bystrom) Boline; her husband, Robert Swenson; her brothers, Marshall (Ruth) Boline, Harley Boline, and Milton (Margaret) Boline; and her nephew, Kent Boline.
Services have been entrusted to Kober Funeral Home of Vermillion, South Dakota.
