After losing a pair of games at Tyndall earlier in the week, the Vermillion Teener Reds began a new winning streak at Prentis Park last Thursday, shutting out Akron, 3-0, on Billy Mount's seven-inning one-hitter.
The only hit off Mount was a blue darter past third base in the second inning. Otherwise the only Akron baserunners came on two first-inning errors and two walks. The first two were stranded on base, and the latter two were erased in force plays. At one stretch Mount and his defense retired 10 batters in a row.
Mount's single drove in the first Reds run in the first. Joe Miller doubled home the singling Nate Robertson to make it 2-0 in the fourth. Riley Peters was hit with a pitch, stole second and scored on Carter Kratz's infield grounder in the fifth. Brandon Mockler and Cole Anderson had the other two Reds hits.
The Reds will host Brookings Black at the USD softball complex at noon Saturday, then travel to Beresford next Tuesday and to Dakota Valley next Wednesday.
