Westreville Festival Fun Run/Cemetery Walk Saturday

Come to the Country and join the walkers and runners in the historic town of Westreville. Once home to two general stores, a dairy, livery, post office and school, now home to Pleasant Valley Church and friendly neighbors. The Fun Run/Walk/Bike begins at 9 a.m., with pie and coffee being served at 10 a.m. Kids activities will begin at 10 am.

Nancy Carlsen from the Clay County Historical Society will be on hand to answer questions about the mapping she completed and put into the Clay County Cemetery books. The books will be on loan from the Wakonda Public Library the day of the Festival.

Dakota Screen Works designed and printed the commemorative T-shirts that will be available for $10. All funds go to support the development of a historical marker in Westreville and to help the scholarship fund in honor of the four Eckert children who tragically lost their lives in a house fire.

Registration for the Fun Run/Walk/Bike will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the Pleasant Valley Church the day of the Festival, June 9. Registration is $10 and includes a T-shirt. You may pick your route and distance you'd like to go. Details will be available at registration.

Justice Mews, of "Justice's Farm Fresh Eggs" will have his chicken on hand to play "chicken bingo," kids will be able to make "dirt pudding," participate in "farmer" relay races, and hunt for money in the straw.

Many friends and neighbors will be assisting with this event. We have also been contacted by folks who grew up in this area, who will be with us in spirit, including descendants of the Skaane's and Norton's!

Please join us for a good cause and for great pie (baked by Carla Ostrem) and other goodies by the ladies from the Pleasant Valley Church! Pleasant Valley Lutheran Church is located at 45918 308th St., Vermillion, SD 57069.
