For safety reasons, the South Dakota Department of Transportation is asking farmers to try to keep their field irrigation systems from spraying water onto state highways.
Irrigation overspray can cause a dangerous driving situation for motorists by creating a slippery road surface and limiting visibility for drivers.
Such conditions can be especially dangerous for motorcyclists who may unexpectedly get hit with a spray of water – leading to potentially serious or fatal accidents.
The annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally is approaching, and the number of bikers on South Dakota roads will be much higher than normal for the next several weeks.
