19th annual Bull-A-Rama set for Aug. 24-26

The Coyote Country Rodeo Club (CCRC) members are gearing up for the 19th Annual Bull-A-Rama showcasing the "Extreme Bull Riding Tour" held at the Clay County Rodeo Grounds, west of Vermillion on Timber Road.

This year's event promises to be exciting and jam-packed with activities.

Friday Aug. 24 starts the weekend off with the "Unloading of the Bulls" at the Rodeo Grounds at 7 p.m.

This is your opportunity to get an overall view of the bucking bulls that have been provided by the Double S Bull Company and meet some of the bull riders on tour.

Friday night also features a meal of roasted pork, beans and all of the fixings ($ 5 donation for the meal) and an opportunity to socialize.

On Saturday morning there will be a Bull-A-Rama Promotional Event running from 10 a.m.-noon in the Hy-Vee parking lot. It will include registration for the Kids Mutton Bustin and Youth Steer Riding, free horse rides, presale of Bull-A-Rama tickets, a chance to meet bull riders and a bull fighter/clown and get autographs, plus an opportunity to get up close and personal to a bucking bull.

It will also be a chance to meet this years Miss Extreme, Hannah Hilsabeck from Winterset, IA.

This year we are pleased to include AlaBling fashions and accessories to the Promo Event as well as Clyde's Mechanical Bull. The cost for mechanical bull rides is two tries for $5 or a bracelet that is good for both the Promo Event and the evening event for $20.

The Rodeo Club will also be selling the 19th Annual Bull-A-Rama T-shirt and we have a huge assortment of raffle items. The raffle items include a men's package with a BBQ Grill; a ladies' package with a purse, flip-flops, a cowgirl tote, kitchen items and lots of gift certificates; as well as lots of other raffle items including several new Polaris helmets and Polaris items.

Once again Western Trails has donated an amazing western buckle to be raffled off and tickets for this item are available Saturday morning at the Promo Event.

Bull-A-Rama pre-sale tickets are also available in Vermillion at Hy-Vee, Pump-N-Pak and Freedom Value Store and in Yankton at Hy-Vee and Western Trails.

All eyes will then turn to the main event, which begins Saturday, Aug. 25, at 7 p.m. at the Rodeo Grounds. The Bull-A-Rama will include sanctioned extreme bull-riders, an open class event, steer-riding for the youth, mutton bustin', candy toss, food stands operated by Hy-Vee, K & C Kettle Corn, Craig's Shave Ice and Hecks Dakota Style BBQ, as well as beer sales.

Clyde's Mechanical Bull and AlaBling will be available through out the evening. In addition to selecting the winners of the numerous raffles, there will be lots of items given away through the evening.

Following the conclusion of the bull-riding there will be a fireworks display by Fireworks Unlimited and then a dance featuring the country band Riata. Everyone is encouraged to stay for the free fireworks and free dance and meet the members of the Clay County Rodeo Club and have an old-fashioned outdoor dance.

Sunday will begin with an all-denominational outdoor cowboy church service at 10 a.m., followed by a trail ride at noon, which starts from the rodeo grounds and winds down along the beautiful Missouri River.

The trail ride is free and we encourage all horse riders to attend as the ride will be relaxing and with a view that is second to none.

Following the trail ride will be a pot-luck meal back at the rodeo grounds.

This year will feature a new addition to the Sunday lineup, which is a ranch rodeo. The ranch rodeo will start at 2 p.m. at the rodeo grounds and will showcase local riders in sorting, penning and other ranch-related cattle tasks.

There is guaranteed to be lots of laughter and fun in this free-to-watch event and it is intended to be a laid back family friendly afternoon. Spectators are encouraged to come and cheer on their friends and family as they try their best to be a "ranch cowboy".

This jam-packed weekend would not be possible with out the support of the community, our sponsors and generous donations. We would like to thank our major sponsors who help get this event off and running: Double S Bulls, Jones Ace Hardware, Hy-Vee, Budweiser, Premium Best Transport, Yankton Press & Dakotan, WNAX – the WOLF, Western Trails, Polaris, Fireworks Unlimited and Clay-Union Electric.

The members of Coyote Country Rodeo Club invite everyone out to enjoy a historical South Dakota tradition and celebrate all that Bull Riding and Rodeo has to offer during the 19th Annual Bull-A-Rama, Aug. 24-26.
