  • Join in jump rope at 4:30 p.m. at Clay County Fairgrounds, 515 High St. Check in begins at 4:30 p.m., jumping begins at 4:45 p.m. All participants receive a free Sanford Vermillion jump rope and a cool treat from Scoops Ice Cream Shop. Event sponsored by Sanford Health.

  • Overeaters Anonymous at 9 a.m. Location: Sanford Vermillion Medical Center, 20 S. Plum St., administration entrance just south of the hospital entrance in the board room.Overeaters Anonymous is a 12-step program for people with eating disorders and struggles.
  • Louise Lyman of Yankton will exhibit a series of paintings entitled "Natures Treasures" at the W.H. Over Museum at 1110 University Street, Vermillion during the month of August 2012. Artist reception will be held at the Museum from 5– 7 p.m. or visit the gallery showing during the museum's regular hours 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

  •  High School Registration from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

  • Hunt Safe classes are being offered for anyone who will be 12 years of age prior to December 31st 2012 or older. We will be meeting in the basement of the Public Safety Building located at 15 Washington Street on August 13th 14th and 16th from 6:30 pm until 9:00 pm. We will also meet at the Clay County Park Sportsman's Club on August 18th at 9:00 am for the final portion.  No preregistration is necessary however; parents will need to accompany their child to the first class for registration.   • AUG. 18 – Heartland Humane Society Shelter will be closed.
  • AUG. 18 – Heritage Bike Ride, starting from Immanuel Lutheran Church in Elk Point located just off exit 18 on I-29. Fifteenth annual fundraiser for Youth Mentoring Program in Clay and Union County. Registration starts at 8 a.m.; riders leave at 9 a.m. Routes range from 8-58+ miles. Riders go at their own pace. Free snacks and beverages are provided on the routes, and sag vehicles are out until every rider returns. Lunch served at Immanuel Lutheran Church from 10:30 a.m.-3 p.m. and is open to the public. Registration forms available at http://www.clay-unionfoundation.org/ under events, and also at many area businesses and bike riding sites.   • AUG. 20-21 – Screening Saves Lives: The Mobile Heart Screen is coming to Sanford Vermillion, Monday, Aug. 20 and Tuesday, Aug. 21 from 8 a.m.-noon, 1:30-5:30 p.m. at Sanford Vermillion Main Lobby, 20 S. Plum St. Screening includes CT calcium score, EKG, cholesterol (non-fasting), blood pressure, Body Mass Index (BMI) and a risk estimate for heart conditions. Schedule your heart screen today.   • AUG. 21 – Lewis & Clark Regional Water System, 31474 SD Hwy 19, will be having an Open House and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony starting at 10 a.m.

  • AUG. 23 – The Department of Labor and Regulation will be holding a Job Search Assistance Program at 1024 West Cherry St. from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. The JSAP is designed to assist and train job seekers on how to find and secure employment. Some of the topics included are job search and retention skills, networking, the hidden job market, resumes, applications, and proper interview techniques. It is provided at no charge and open to the public.   • AUG. 23 – "Thursdays On The Platz" in downtown Vermillion, corner of Market and Main streets from 6-8 p.m. Sponsored by First Dakota National Bank, First Bank and Trust, CorTrust Bank, Bank of the West and Vermillion Federal Credit Union. Live music outdoors on Ratingen Platz featuring "Old Funk Riot." Food is available at every event, as well as water, pop, wine and beer. Food provided by the United Way-kickoff event on Aug. 23. It's a great chance to sit outdoors with friends and family, listen to music, and enjoy the great outdoors. Bring the family, have some food and enjoy some local entertainment.

  • AUG. 26 – The annual Pancake Fly-In Breakfast sponsored by the Vermillion Lions Club and Main Street Center at the Vermillion Airport. Pancakes, sausages and beverages will be served from 8 am-12 p.m. in the airport hangar. Proceeds to benefit The Main Street Center.
  • SEPT. 7-8 – Ribs, Rods and Rock 'n Roll knows how to host a BBQ! We boast the largest KCBS sanctioned State BBQ Championship in SD! Get ready for two fun-filled days on FRIDAY AND SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 7 and 8 in downtown Vermillion! Discussion will be led by Jamie Sullivan of Mt. Marty College. Refreshments will be served. Free.
