The University of South Dakota volleyball team reported for fall camp on Tuesday and held its first full preseason practice for the 2012 season on Thursday morning at the DakotaDome in Vermillion. The volleyball team is the third Coyote program to report for fall camp, following women's soccer and football.
The Coyotes are entering their fifth season under the direction of Head Coach Matt Houk, who is 64-58 in his tenure at South Dakota.
A year ago, the Coyotes proved to be a formidable foe in the Summit League – finishing sixth after being picked to finish ninth in the league – despite having only two seniors. While South Dakota loses two starters from that team, it also returns much of its lineup, led by second-team all-conference player Kendall Kritenbrink, now a sophomore.
The Coyotes will also return senior Kim Bulaga, juniors Tori Kroll, Amber Aschoff and Natalie Walseth and sophomore Riley Haug, all of whom started matches a year ago. The Coyote roster will consist of three seniors, three juniors, four sophomores and six freshmen.
South Dakota opens the regular season at the Alabama State Invitational on Aug. 24. The Coyotes' home opener is Sept. 21 against Fort Wayne.
