Elizabeth Schroeder

 Elizabeth Joan (Jo Ann) Schroeder, 87, Vermillion, went to be with the Lord, Thursday, Aug. 16, 2012, following a brief illness.

Joan was born January 6, 1925, to Leo and Susan (Holliday) Carraher in Stamford, NE. She graduated from Stamford High School, received a teaching degree from the University of Nebraska, and taught a year in Beaver City. In 1945 she married Raymond Schroeder in Orleans, NE. They resided in Stamford and Lincoln, NE before moving to Vermillion in 1953. Joan was a homemaker and raised eight children.

Joan enjoyed participating in prayer groups, Bible studies, and funeral choir. She was a special needs advocate and a volunteer at the Dakota Care Center. She especially enjoyed her family, friends, crossword puzzles, and her dog Gracie. Her family travels included trips to Australia, Kenya, France, and Ireland. She was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters, Emeritus Club, and USD Faculty Women's Club.

Grateful for having shared her life are her eight children, Richard (Kristen) Schroeder, Tacoma, WA, Susan (Al) Agrimson, S. Sioux City, NE, Steven (Mary) Schroeder, Lincoln, NE, Randy (Jeanne) Schroeder, Cincinnati, OH, Chris (Maragwa) Schroeder, Austin, TX, Rachel (Bill) Ouellette, Sioux City, IA, Maureen (Tim) Hedeen, Beresford, and Corinne (Mike) Rath, Vermillion; and 23 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond; her brother, Edwin; and her parents.

Visitation was from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 19 with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church.  The funeral mass was 10:30 a.m., Monday, Aug. 20, 2012, at St. Agnes with burial following in the Calvary Cemetery in Vermillion.  hansenfuneralhome.com.
