Members of the Vermillion, Beresford and Wakonda fire departments responded to a grass fire that broke out north of Vermillion and east of Hub City on 306th Street Monday afternoon. Water was received to fight the fire from Centerville Ag and Simplot Grower Solutions of Beresford. The Clay County Sheriff's Office also was on-hand for traffic control and to help move water. According to EMS Director Lee Huber, crews were on the scene for four hours, and the fire consumed somewhere between 50 and 70 acres.
