The annual Ribs, Rods & Rock'n Roll event is coming up soon, and the Vermillion City Council approved several items at its recent meeting to ensure the festivities go off as smooth as possible. The council approved temporary street closures, a sound permit and a special daily malt beverage and wine license in regard to the event, which is set for Sept. 7-8.
The main portion of the street closure will be on Main from the diagonal High and Austin streets intersection, and on Market Street from Main to Bloomingdale Street.
The request included the use of Rantingen Platz and several half-block areas off of Main and Market, as well.A special permit to exceed permissible sound levels by no more than 50 percent for a street dance was accepted as well.
The dance will take place on Main Street between High and Prospect between 8 p.m.-1 a.m. on Sept. 7, and from 5 p.m.-1 a.m. Sept. 8, respectively.
The city council also approved a special daily malt beverage and wine license for the event.
According to a memo distributed to council members, the council will be able to grant a license to various organizations in conjunction with the event, after a public hearing.
