Vermillion cross country runners will compete at home this afternoon as VHS hosts an invitational meet.
South Sioux City, Sioux City Bishop Heelan, Parkston and West Sioux (Hawarden) will have runners joining the Tanager athletes for the meet which begins with the boys varsirty 5000-meter event at 3:45 p.m. The varsity girls 4000 meters goes at 4:10, followed by JV girls/boys 4000 meters at 4:45.
The Tanagers ran at Canton's invitational on Sept. 4. The boys team accumulated 70 points tro place fourth among six schools. Parker, which claimed the individual champ in Duane Jongeling in a time of 17:11, won the team title.
Nathan Ford was second to Jongeling in 18:46. Jacob Ford placed 25th in 21:49, Matthew Hirsch 28th in 21:58, Colin Olson 30th in 22:08 and Logan Peterson 33rd 22:29.
In the girls race, which was won by Canton's Halie McMains in 15:51, Josie Heeren had the best Tanager time of 17:24, good for seventh place. Madison Martinez was 24th in 19:16, Morgan Hower 31st in 20:33 and Britney Sweeney 37th in 21:06.
