Vermillion's volleyball girls begin a three-match homestand Tuesday when Tea Area comes to the VHS gym for a dual.
The Tanagers will also be at home the following week against Wagner and West Central before hitting the road for most of October for six straight out-of-town matches.
Coach Lenni Billberg's girls played in five matches at the Luverne Invitational on Saturday, winning one, losing two and playing to a draw in the other two. The Tanagers' win came over Edgerton by game scores of 25-15 and 28-26.
Vermillion lost to Blue Earth 15-25 and 21-25. The Tanagers split with Pipestone, losing 18-25 but winning 28-26 and did the same with host Luverne, winning 26-24 and losing 15-25. Each match in the tournament was held to only two games, regardless of their outcome.
Last week the Tanagers scored a 3-1 win over Bon Homme after losing the first game 17-25. The Tanagers rebounded with wins by 29-27, 25-20 and 25-23 to complete the victory. Katie Herrera had nine kills, six digs, four blocks and five service aces. Josie Huber contributed six kills, six aces, 10 digs and two blocked shots. Megan Olson had 11 digs with six kills, Mackenzie Huber 15 digs, Mariah Larson 29 set assists and Steph Erwin six kills and three blocks.
Vermillion dropped a 3-0 decision to Tri-Valley on game scores of 20-25, 22-25 and 16-25. Mackenzie Huber was credited with seven kills and 10 digs, Larson 15 set assists and eight digs, Josie Huber four aces and six digs, Sarah Hughes-Berheim 13 digs, Megan Olson seven digs and Erwin four kills.
