The Vermillion High volleyball season ended with a 5-15 record after the Tanagers lost in the semifinal round of the District 8A tournament last week.
The Tanagers fell at the hands of eventual district champion Dakota Valley in a 3-0 match in North Sioux City. The Panthers, ranked third in the state, won a close first set, 25-20, then dominated the action in the remaining two sets, 25-11 and 25-8, to advance to the finals where they defeated Elk Point-Jefferson.
Sarah Hughes-Berheim had 11 digs for Vermillion, Megan Olson nine, Josie Huber eight, Mariah Larson five and Melissa Chickering five. Mackenzie Huber recorded four kills, Katie Herrera four and Olson three. Olson, Josie Huber and Hughes-Berheim had two service aces apiece while Larson had eight set assists.
In the regular-season finale the Tanagers lost to Elk Point-Jefferson, 3-0, on set scores of 11-25, 20-25 and 22-25. Josie Huber was credited with six kills, Hughes-Berheim with four aces, Megan Olson with 14 digs, Josie Huber with 11 digs and Larson with 10.
