For the second time in three years, the University of South Dakota will be in the market for a new athletic director.
Sources told the Yankton Press & Dakotan that USD athletic director David Sayler will be named to the same position at Miami University of Ohio at a press conference Wednesday afternoon in Oxford, Ohio.
Sayler, 43, follows former USD athletic director Joel Nielsen, who left in March 2010 for Kent State University — which competes in the same league, Mid-American Conference (MAC) as Miami.
Sayler was in his third season in Vermillion, after being named the school's 12th A.D. in June 2010. He helped secure the football team's membership in the Missouri Valley Football Conference, starting this past fall. He was also instrumental in USD gaining approval from the Board of Regents for a new volleyball/basketball arena, a new outdoor track and soccer complex, and upgrades to the DakotaDome.
Among his other accomplishments at USD, Sayler helped garner a multimedia rights contract with Learfield Sports in early 2011, and implementation of a new athletic logo that was unveiled in August 2011.
Sayler is no stranger to the state of Ohio. He served as Associate Athletic Director for Business Operations at Bowling Green State University from 2001-05, where he oversaw operations, ticket and marketing departments. Sayler also earned a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting degree from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1991.
