Thomas (Tom) Emigh, 94, died Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2012 at Covington Heights in Sioux Falls. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 29 at Peace Lutheran Church with interment in Hills of Rest Memorial Park. Visitation will be on Friday from 3 to 8 p.m., with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m.
Tom was born Feb. 25, 1918 in Richardson County, Nebraska to Lark and Jenny Emigh.
After graduating from Honey Creek High School in 1936, he moved to Los Angeles, CA where he met Vivian Peterson, the love of his life. They moved back to the Dalesburg Community near, Vermillion, where they joined the Dalesburg Church and were married on June 16, 1940 at Dalesburg Lutheran Church. Tom served on the church council for several years. He also farmed for several years. In 1969 he retired from farming and moved to Sioux Falls, where they joined Peace Lutheran Church. In 1970, Tom and his son, Gary, started Emigh Construction, building houses, apartments and small commercial buildings.
Survivors include his two children, a daughter, Karlene (George) Mitchell and a son, Gary (Therese) Emigh; five grandchildren, Melissa (Gabe) Nelson, Sheri (Brad) Jans, Kristi (Mike) Miller, Kevin (Diane) Mitchell, and Kim Mitchell; 14 great-grandchildren, Lauren, Avery, and Lydia Nelson, Tucker, Sydney, Cheyenne Miller, Alex, Morgan and Julia Mitchell, Cooper Mitchell, Taryn, Maya, Hadley and Brody Jans; and one sister, Ruth Nixon.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Vivian; parents and six brothers. Memorials may be directed to the Peace Lutheran Church Memorial Fund. www.heritagesfsd.com.
