Vermillion's wrestlers will complete the second week of their season Saturday at the Yankton Invitational.
Next week the Tanagers will make their last home appearance for six weeks when they host Tea Area and West Central in a triangular on Thursday night.
The VHS matmen opened their campaign on Nov. 27 in a triangular at Lennox where they defeated the host Orioles, 51-30, but lost a dual with Harrisburg, 55-18.
On Saturday at the nine-team Rider Invitational at Sioux Falls Roosevelt, the Tanagers finished ninth in the team standings with a point total of 103.5
Vermillion did claim two championships, one runner-up, and a pair of fourth-place finishes.
Brett Bye won the title in the 145-pound class, capping off his day with a pin in 3:02 over West Central's Jake Anderson. Regan Bye followed with the 152-pound championship, besting Brandon Valley's Wyatt Winter, 4-2, in his final match. The Bye cousins are both sophomores.
Brandon Hertz, Vermillion's sophomore 160-pounder, reached his championship match before losing out to Lincoln's Luke Reiter, 5-2. Junior Alex Osborne placed fourth at 170 when he dropped the third-place contest to West Central's Brandon Pennock, 7-1. Senior Seth Heine took fourth at 182, falling 4-2 in the third-place match to Washington's Dan Marlette.
