Former Vermillion resident returns from Afghanistan

United States Army Specialist (Promotable) Seth Mette recently returned from a nine-month deployment to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Mette is a member of the 704th Brigade Support Battalion of the Fourth Brigade Combat Team of the Fourth Infantry Division and is stationed at Fort Carson in Colorado Springs, CO. He served on the forward operating base perimeter watch and the projects construction team for force protection during the deployment.

Mette was named the Battalion Soldier of the Month in June 2012 and was awarded the Combat Action Badge, as well as the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the Afghan Campaign Medal, the War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the NATO Iraqi Afghanistan Sudan Medal and the Army Overseas Service Ribbon.

Mette is a 2000 Vermillion High School graduate and attended USD. He enlisted in July 2009. He and his wife Julia reside at Fort Carson with the children Lucien and Tori Rei. He is the son of Dale and Sandy Mette of Vermillion.
