02/03/13 19:56 – A deputy observed a vehicle speeding past the City Park in Wakonda. The car was stopped and the driver cited for the offense.

02/03/13 22:31 – A caller reported a pedestrian on Highway 46 walking with a 12-pack of beer in the dark. The caller was concerned the person could be hit by a car. A deputy responded but was unable to locate the subject.

02/04/13 12:34 – A deputy transported an inmate from the State Penitentiary in Springfield to the Clay County Jail for a court appearance.

02/05/13 09:24 – A deputy responded to a medical emergency at a rural residence and assisted ambulance personnel. The patient was transported by ambulance.

02/05/13 11:06 – A deputy transported an inmate from the Clay County Jail to the State Penitentiary in Springfield after a court appearance in Vermillion.

02/05/13 13:11 – A deputy transported an inmate from Sioux Falls to the Clay County Jail after being arrested in Sioux Falls for a Clay County warrant.

02/05/13 14:53 – A caller reported concern about a person sitting in a car along the highway south of Vermillion. A deputy investigated and found the driver had stopped to safely use a cell phone. There was no need for further assistance.

02/05/13 15:19 – A deputy investigated a report of a theft from a rural residence. It appeared that the items may not have been stolen after looking into the matter.

02/05/13 16:58 – A deputy responded to a report of four cars parked on a gravel road near Gayville. The caller did not know what the problem was. A deputy responded and the cars were gone.

02/05/13 18:11 – A report was received of a horse loose on Highway 19 near 308th St. A deputy responded and located the owner. The deputy assisted the owner in returning the horse to its pasture.

02/05/13 22:41 – A deputy investigated a report of a prisoner having contraband in the jail. Procedures were made more strict for this inmate in the future.

02/06/13 11:33 – A deputy arrested a person wanted on a Clay County arrest warrant in Vermillion.

02/06/13 16:20 – Deputies responded to assist the jail with an inmate who was making suicide threats and was not cooperative with staff. The situation was resolved without incident.

02/06/13 20:43 – A caller reported a natural gas smell on Highway 19 north of Vermillion. A deputy, a Highway Patrolman, and the Fire Chief responded but did not locate the smell or the source of it.

02/07/13 14:04 – A deputy assisted the Department of Social Services with a check of the welfare of children at a residence near Vermillion.

02/07/13 14:50 – A deputy investigated a report of a break in at an unoccupied rural residence. The incident is under investigation.

02/07/13 19:27 – A deputy investigated a report of a suspicious vehicle at a vacant rural residence. Upon investigation it was found the car was parked there temporarily.

02/07/13 19:32 – A deputy arrested a woman in Vermillion on outstanding Minnehaha County warrants.

02/08/13 13:38 – A deputy observed a vehicle being driven by a person who was wanted for a Clay County warrant. The vehicle was stopped and the driver arrested on the warrant.

02/08/13 15:09 – An arrestee was brought into the jail and was found to be in possession of marijuana. Additional charges were filed.

02/08/13 19:28 – A deputy received a report of a vehicle in Wakonda behaving suspiciously late at night. The incident is under investigation.

02/08/13 20:46 – A deputy observed a vehicle operating in Vermillion with a tail light out. The car was stopped and the driver notified of the problem.

02/08/13 21:02 – A report was received of a vicious dog near Vermillion bothering neighbors. A deputy spoke to the owner who agreed to keep the dog confined to his own property in the future.

02/09/13 16:49 – A deputy located debris on Highway 50 near Vermillion. The debris was cleared off the road.

02/09/13 18:44 – A deputy assisted the Vermillion Police Department with a dispute between two people by locating one of the involved people after he left the scene.

02/09/13 20:31 – A deputy investigated a car/deer crash on Greenfield Road.

02/10/13 13:36 – A deputy provided traffic control for a tow service so a vehicle which was stuck in the mud could be removed.

02/11/13 13:42 – Deputies assisted the Vermillion Police Department with a search warrant for drugs at a residence in Vermillion. One person was arrested and charges are under consideration for other occupants.

02/11/13 22:31 – A deputy found two horses on the highway north of Meckling. He located the owner of the horses and assisted in getting them back into a pasture.

02/12/13 08:15 – Deputies responded to a two car accident on the Highway 50 Bypass. There were no injuries. One driver was cited for a stop sign violation.

02/12/13 12:57 – A deputy investigated a report that an inmate in the jail called a person who he was prohibited from contacting. The inmate was charged with an additional count of violating his bond conditions from an earlier arrest.

02/12/13 13:43 – A deputy took a report from a citizen that he was concerned an unwelcome person would be coming to his property and that there would be a fight if that happened. The caller was advised to call the police immediately if the person arrived and to avoid engaging in a fight if possible.

02/12/13 14:54 – A deputy transported an inmate to a clinic for a medical appointment and then returned her to the jail.

02/12/13 17:47 – A caller reported losing a plastic tote containing tools on the Highway 50 bypass. So far, no one has called in to report finding it.

02/12/13 18:40 – A deputy mediated a child custody dispute. The custody transfer then took place without incident.

02/12/13 18:55 – A deputy responded to a report of a gas leak in Vermillion and assisted with evacuation of the residence until fire units arrived.

02/12/13 19:56 – A deputy transported a patient to the hospital for an evaluation and then to the Human Service Center in Yankton for an involuntary mental health committal.

02/13/13 01:30 – A deputy responded to a medical emergency in Wakonda. A woman was transported by ambulance.

02/13/13 06:07 – A deputy assisted the Vermillion Police Department with a death investigation in Vermillion.

02/13/13 09:11 – Deputies took a report from a Wakonda woman who complained of a text message from another woman. No crime was committed.

02/13/13 15:04 – A deputy investigated a report of a dog bite in Meckling.

02/13/13 15:35 – A deputy provided traffic control while the driver changed a flat tire on a vehicle in the passing lane on Highway 50.

02/13/13 15:49 – A deputy took a report of a minor accident in the Vermillion High School parking lot. There were no injuries.

02/13/13 21:18 – A deputy transported a patient to the Human Services Center in Yankton for an involuntary mental illness hold.

02/14/13 10:05 – A deputy transported a woman from the hospital to the Human Services Center in Yankton for an involuntary mental health committal.

02/14/13 12:00 – Deputies investigated a report from the Dixon County, NE Sheriff’s Office of long loads transporting irrigation equipment into South Dakota. Property was damaged in Nebraska. The vehicle operators were located and cited for various offenses.

02/14/13 14:32 – A deputy responded to Irene to a trespassing complaint. Upon investigation it was found the subject was not trespassing but had a warrant for his arrest in Lawrence County. The man was arrested and transported to jail where he posted bond.

02/14/13 17:36 – A phone alarm was received indicating an intrusion at a rural residence. The homeowner was contacted and he said he had set off the alarm but had left the residence. A deputy was in the area and responded to ensure all was well at the residence.

02/15/13 11:15 – The school resource officer investigated a report of one middle school student sexually harassing another student. Parents were notified and school policy was enforced.

02/15/13 17:11 – A deputy took a report of name calling and harassment between two Irene women. No crimes were committed. The women were advised to seek protection orders if they felt threatened.

02/15/13 20:37 – A deputy served a Minnesota protection order to a Vermillion man.

02/15/13 21:11 – A deputy served a protection order to man in Vermillion. The man’s spouse was notified of the service.

02/16/13 15:00 – A deputy investigated information that a sex offender moved out of the area without giving proper notification. The sex offender may now be in Minnesota. The matter in under investigation.
