Tanager grapplers competing in Region 2A tourney

Vermillion High wrestlers will know by nightfall tonight (Friday) whether their seasons continue into next weekend’s state tournament.

The Tanagers are competing in the Region 2A Tournament at Sioux Falls Lincoln. The top four placers in each weight class advance to Watertown for the state tourney Feb. 22-23.

Vermillion lost both ends of a triangular at Sioux Falls Washington last week, falling to the host Warriors 39-31 and losing to Harrisburg 42-33.

Against Washington the Tanagers won five matches on the mat. Noah Walker earned a 5:25 pin at 125 pounds, Carter Kratz a 10-1 major decision at 138, Regan Bye a 5:44 pin at 145, Brett Bye a pin in 4:19 at 152, and Zach Westergaard a 4-2 decision at 195. Kyle Seibel acquired six points for a forfeit win at 106.

In the Harrisburg dual Brett Bye, Alex Osborne and Noah Westergaard accumulated 18 team points on forfeit wins. Victorious on the mat were Seibel by a 2-0 count at 106, Kratz on a 2:51 pin at 138 and Regan Bye in a 1:39 pin at 145.
