Deidra Rahn of Centerville was recently diagnosed with a cancer called Burkitt’s lymphoma. This is an aggressive, rapidly proliferating B cell lymphoma. Thankfully, this type of cancers is very responsive to chemotherapy and has a very positive prognosis when it is caught early. Members of the Centerville community are rallying together to have a benefit supper with a silent and live auction for Deidra and her family to help defray the medical expenses. The Deidra Rahn Benefit will be held on April 20, with the supper and silent auction beginning at 4:30 p.m. with the live auction beginning at 7 p.m. Modern Woodmen, Irene Group Branch 1950 will match funds up to $1000.
Deidra is married to Chris Rahn and they have lived in Centerville since 1998. They have five children who have all grown up and gone to school in Centerville. Chris, 24, lives in Sioux Falls, Joshua, 22 attends USD and lives at home, Tessa Slechta, 20 attends STI in Sioux Falls, Ethan 19, attends School of Mines in Rapid City and Clarissa, 16, is a junior at Centerville High School. Diedra also has one new grandson, Owen Louis Rahn, son of Chris Rahn and Allie DeKramer.
Deidra currently works for the Department of Social Services in Vermilion and serves the elderly population of Union County. Deidra has been a member of the Centerville Community Ambulance Service since 2001 and was training to become a paramedic when she was stricken by her cancer.
Deidra is an active member of the Centerville community, probably best remembered for her recurring role of Sister Amnesia in the Centerville Community Theater productions. Deidra is an avid marathon runner and many of you living north of Centerville have probably encountered her running on the roads north and east of Centerville.
