John Melvin Larson, Jr. was born on July 25, 1940, the son of John Melvin Larson, Sr. and Dorothy (McIntyre) Larson in Canistota. He attended and graduated from Meckling High School in Meckling. While in Rockford, IL, he joined the Methodist Church. A member of Teamsters Union 705 and 710, he drove semi-truck for most of his life. He enjoyed boating, fishing, and photography. John had his pilot’s license and flew small planes as a hobby as well. John became a resident of Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Lakefield, MN on Sept. 23, 2011; he passed away there on March 13, 2013 at the age of 72 years, seven months, and 16 days.
His family will have a private family burial at the Bluffview Cemetery in Vermillion at a later date.
He is survived by his children, Susan (Erwin) Ortiz of Mountain Lake, MN, Michael (Christina) Larson of Hartley, IA, and Jane (Shawn) Baird of Hartley, IA. He is also survived by seven grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Dorothy Larson; a daughter, Kristine; and two young brothers.
