The Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity, Kappa Pi Chapter at the University of South Dakota, will host PIKE Week of Service from April 2-9. The PIKE Week of Service is a weeklong community service and philanthropy event in which the men of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity at the University of South Dakota along with the help of many others will work to raise money and awareness for local causes.
As part of the week of service, the chapter will participate in community service programs and raise money for leukemia and lymphoma research, as well as raise awareness for domestic violence, including PIKES in the Park and the Change for Change event. The chapter will also be completing various service projects within the community that week such as Beyond School Adventure, Vermillion downtown cleanup, and the Food Bank of Siouxland.
This year marks the seventh annual PIKES in the Park event set for 5 p.m., Thursday, April 4, at Prentis Park in Vermillion. Tickets for this event can be purchased at the tables in the Muenster University Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on weekdays from March 25 to April 4. The event will include food, games and music with a $5 cover charge. All proceeds from the event will be directly donated to Leukemia and Lymphoma Research.
For 24 hours a day, seven days a week, the fraternity will hold our Change for Change event. This event raises awareness and funds for local domestic violence shelters. During this weeklong event, the men of Pi Kappa Alpha will live in boxes outside the Muenster University Center in efforts to collect any spare change or monetary donations for shelters in Sioux City, Vermillion, and Sioux Falls.
In regards to all events, both college students and members of the community are encouraged to participate. For more information regarding these events, please visit the “PIKE Week of Service” and the “PIKES in the Park” Facebook pages.
