United Way of Vermillion is almost ready to wrap up their 2013 campaign, but not without making a final push to raise the remaining $9,000 to reach the campaign goal.
“We’ve had an incredible year, not just raising additional dollars, but getting lots of new people involved who are just finding out about the work that United Way does in our community,” said Board President Dan Kenton. “Reaching $115,000 would be the icing on the cake.”
Meeting the campaign goal would allow United Way to fully fund awards made to nineteen local programs, from the Imagination Library book program and Beyond School Adventures to Meals on Wheels and Domestic Violence Safe Options Services.
John Lushbough directs the Weekend Backpack Program and the Back-to-School Backpack Program, two recipients of United Way funding. “The United Way making their goal is a big deal for us and other folks who depend on that funding. Most small nonprofits around here don’t have paid staff to do fundraising, so the United Way takes some of that pressure off of us and allows us to focus on our mission.”
Donations for to the 2013 campaign will be accepted until March 31. Executive Director Kelsey Collier-Wise stressed the importance of gifts of any size. “Any donation amount makes a difference. This isn’t a campaign made up of high rollers – it’s a lot of people, giving what they can and making life a little better for their friends and neighbors.”
