University of South Dakota men’s golf shot 300-308-301 – 909 and improved from 11th-place to a tie for seventh in the final round of the 41st Annual Beu Mussatto Invitational at the Harry Mussatto Golf Course in Macomb, IL, on Saturday afternoon.
Sam Matthew led the final round charge, shooting a 71 to jump from a tie for 30th to 10th-place at 5-over-par. Also making a big leap was Alex Kline, who entered the third round tied for 66th but fired a 72 to improve 37 spots to a tie for 29th at 14-over-par.
Jordan Rykal’s opening round of 71 tied for the best round of any Coyote at the tournament and shot 71-76-83 – 230 over the two-day event, finishing tied with Rykal for 29th overall. Dakota Clark finished two strokes behind his teammates at 232 (16-over-par) and tied for 43rd among individual competitors.
Marc Gubbels finished 76th at the event, shooting 77-81-85 – 243. Miles Death competed unattached and shot 78-79-76 – 233 to tie for 51st individually.
South Dakota State finished first in the team standings, posting an overall score of 300-285-304 – 889 to beat IUPUI by two strokes. IUPUI’s Santiago Ruiz was the top individual finisher at the event, shooting 73-73-70 – 217 to finish +1.
The Coyotes will have 16 days off before returning to the links at the Tennessee State Tournament in Old Hickory, TN, on April 15.
