Veronica (Dwyer) Fredrickson died May 25, 2013, at Sanford Medical Center in Vermillion, at the age of 95 years 6 months.
Funeral mass will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, June 3, 2013, at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Vermillion with Fr. John Fischer officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery at Centerville.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7p.m. Sunday, June 2, 2013, with a prayer service beginning at 7 p.m., at the Hansen Funeral Home in Vermillion.
Veronica was born in Wakonda, SD on Nov. 24, 1917, to Tom and Hanna Dwyer. She moved with her parents, sister Naoma and her brother Elwood to Sully County near Onida in 1918, where the family farmed. Jim, Lovella and Donald were added to the family. They returned to Wakonda in 1931.
Veronica graduated from Wakonda High School in 1934. In 1940 she and Floyd Fredrickson were married in Worthington, MN. Their son Dick was born Oct. 1, 1941. They farmed near Centerville, where they bought land and farmed for nearly 50 years until Floyds’ death on Nov. 1, 1993. Veronica moved to Vermillion in 1997 when she and her sister Lovella Matson had their nephew build twin homes for them to live next to each other.
Veronica and Floyd enjoyed travelling in the winter to visit their son Dick, his wife, Barbara and children, Brett and Lisa. They had interesting trips to where Dick worked in Bogota, Columbia, the Dominican Republic, New York City, Atlanta and the San Francisco, CA area over the years.
Veronica was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Naoma Shrader, Elwood Dwyer, Donald Dwyer; and her son, Dick Fredrickson.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Barbara Fredrickson; grandchildren, Brett (Linda) Fredrickson and Lisa (Dwayne) Wright; great-grandchildren, Tyler and Delaney Fredrickson and Emma, Jacob and Grace Wright; and one brother, Jim (Ardiss) Dwyer; and her sister, Lovella Matson; also a sister-in-law, Babe (Dewey) Rasmussen and Amy Fredrickson; also many nieces and nephews.
