Delsmore (Dellie) Lorrell Larson was born on Oct. 28, 1921, to Aldric and Alma (Berg) Larson in the family home in rural Clay County near Beresford. He died on Aug. 16, 2013, at the age of 91 years, nine months and 19 days.
He attended one-room country schools in the Beresford community. He served in the South Pacific in WW II. While home on furlough, he married Florence Ovesen on Nov. 25, 1944. Dellie was a member of the American Legion, Vermillion VFW and Eagles Club.
Dellie farmed all of his adult life until he and Florence retired and moved into Vermillion in 1984. In retirement, he continued to assist Larry with farming the family farm, and in later years he liked to take rides to see the farm and check out the crops.
Dellie is survived by his wife, Florence; and three children, Diane (Paul) Johnson, Larry (June) Larson and Florene Larson; five grandchildren, Travis Johnson, Tracey (Todd) Halverson, Heidi (Jason) Savey, Tricia (Jason) Knutson and Marc (Erin) Larson; 12 great-grandchildren, Blake, Anna, and Molly Savey; Lane, Siri, and Lila Knutson; Cade and Addison Larson; Morgan, Peyton, and Mya Halverson; and Macy Johnson; two sisters-in-law, Erma Larson and Carol Larson; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Alta Collins and Madeline Vik; brothers Van Dale, Verdell, and Alton Larson.
Dellie was a member of Dalesburg Lutheran Church, rural Vermillion.
Services were held at Dalesburg Lutheran Church on Tuesday, Aug. 20, at 10:30 a.m. Burial was in Dalesburg Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation began Monday, Aug. 19, at 4 p.m. with a prayer service beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Hansen Funeral Home in Vermillion.
