Irene M. Von Ehwegen, age 84, of Lincoln, NE, died Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2013, after a short bout with cancer.

Irene was born on Jan. 21, 1929, in Newell, IA. She graduated from Sulphur Springs High School where she played 6 on 6 girl’s basketball. On May 1, 1949, Irene was united in marriage with Everett and they started farming in December 1949 south of Sac City, IA. They lived on this farm for 25 years where they raised Kathy, Randy and Vicky. In 1974 they moved to Irene’s home place just west of Newell, IA and continued farming for 11 more years. Irene was a loving mother, homemaker, and farm wife. She also worked in a shoe store, as a cook, and as a sales clerk. She was a member of a neighborhood social club called the Merry Meeters and was a 4-H leader for many years. Irene and Everett loved music and dancing. She loved traveling, visiting her children and grandchildren and most recently her great grandchildren. She loved to sew and was known for her handmade quilts. She was a former member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sac City and St. Peter Lutheran Church in Newell. She was currently attending Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Lincoln. Everett and Irene were married for almost 59 years.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Kathy Jo & Richard “Jon” Marshall of Lincoln; grandchildren, Aden and Seth Marshall of Lincoln; son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Jill Von Ehwegen of Vermillion; grandchildren Lisha (Anthony) Edelen of Vermillion, and Jennifer Von Ehwegen of Vermillion, and fiancé Jason Hough of Le Mars, IA; sister, Betty Gustafson of Ft Meyer, FL; sister-in-law, Naomi Judd of Sac City, IA; son-in-law, Terry Princ of Lincoln; grandson, Russ (Pam) Princ of Fort Collins, CO; great grandchildren Oscar and Stella Edelen of Vermillion; and many extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Everett; daughter, Vicky Princ; and parents, Aden and Ethel Barnes.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013, at Ferguson Cemetery, Lake View, IA.
