Thune: ‘Today, we remember’

WASHINGTON, D.C.—U.S. Senator John Thune (R-S.D.), Chairman of the Senate Republican Conference, released the following statement Wednesday on the 12th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, attacks:

“Our country and world were forever changed by the September 11th attacks on the Pentagon, World Trade Center, and Flight 93. In the face of these cowardly attacks, the American spirit prevailed, and out of tragedy our country banded together in acts of courage, kindness, and heroism. Today we remember the lives of the nearly 3,000 men and women who were tragically taken from their loved ones and the heroic first responders who risked their lives to save others. We also give thanks to the brave men and women of the military who continue to defend our liberties both at home and abroad.”

One Response to Thune: ‘Today, we remember’

  1. Dr. Steven King says:

    Senator Thune,
The events of 9/11 has put more of our soldiers in harms way.
We contacted your office to offer and ask for assistance.
Before your staffers would ask what our needs were or know the background of the issues we have brought forward pertaining the lack of research funding into safer combat boots for our endangered soldiers he said “Sorry there is nothing Senator Thune can or will do to help.”He stated that the Senator did not want to micro manage our armed services and that because he was not on the Armed Services Committee he had no influence. He stated that the bureaucracy in DC was stopping many good ideas and companies. He also said that because the government is out of money no assistance would be forthcoming. (The IRS took in a record $2.1 trillion dollars in tax revenues last year). Our veteran owned SD small business has proven technology that has been tested at our own excellent college of SDSMT. It offers a significant level of improvement in footwear safety for our soldiers and requires the next phase of testing while the DoD grant assets are being used to count turtles in the California desert! See grants.gov listings for DoD. We are saddened by the lack of effort by our Junior Senator.
