Bruce Allen Johnson, 59, of Crystal Lake, IL, succumbed to brain cancer on Oct. 21, 2013, in Barrington, IL, after a brave three-and-a-half year battle.
He was born on Dec. 2, 1953, to Delbert and Annabelle Johnson in Viborg.
Bruce graduated from the University of South Dakota with a degree in inorganic chemistry in 1976. He then pursued his masters at the University of Minnesota. Bruce worked for the Valspar Corporation for 34 years, most recently as a technical director. During his long tenure with Valspar, he received a number of prestigious awards as well as being named on several patents.
He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Diane; and his three children, Drew (Natalia), Adam, and Tessa Rose. Bruce is also survived by his mother, Annabelle; his brother, Brian; and his sister, Gloria. He was preceded in death by his father, Delbert.
Visitation was held from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 23, at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 419 E Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake, IL 60014.
The funeral service was held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 24, at Bethany Lutheran Church, 76 West Crystal Lake Avenue, Crystal Lake. There was also a brief visitation at the church from 6 p.m. until the time of the funeral service.
Interment will be held at Hillcrest Cemetery in Irene, at a later date.
