10/13/13 08:42 – A caller reported soybeans on Burbank Road. A deputy checked and found the beans were not a traffic hazard. The highway department was notified.

10/13/13 13:21 – A caller reported people hunting on Spirit Mound. A deputy investigated and found people with expandable monopods for cameras that may have looked like rifles. No one was hunting.

10/13/13 14:40 – A deputy stopped a car for speeding in Wakonda and found the driver was wanted on a Yankton County warrant. The driver was transported to the jail.

10/13/13 20:20 – A Burbank resident reported vehicles including grain trucks are speeding through Burbank in the 35 mph zone. Deputies will provide increased speed enforcement and share the information with the Highway Patrol.

10/15/13 08:32 – A rural resident reported an attempted scam by a caller claiming to be awarding a large prize but first needed money for payment of fees to collect the prize. The resident recognized the scam attempt as fraudulent and did not pay out any money.

10/15/13 15:07 – A deputy met an apartment manager in Wakonda to investigate a foul odor coming from an apartment. Upon investigation it was found the odor was coming from a different apartment and was from a cat litter box.

10/15/13 18:33 – A report was received of a cow out on Bluff Road near Highway 19. The owner was contacted and informed of the problem,

10/16/13 10:05 – A deputy responded along with Beresford fire units to a structure fire at a rural residence.

10/16/13 11:44 – A deputy assisted another agency by checking a rural residence for a missing horse. The horse was not present at the residence.

10/16/13 17:32 – A deputy responded to a report of a box on Highway 50 near Walmart. The deputy did not find a box but removed other debris from the road.

10/16/13 20:57 – A deputy investigated a car/deer accident on Bluff Road.

10/17/13 11:29 – A deputy responded to a medical emergency at a rural residence. Care was provided until an ambulance arrived.

10/17/13 12:53 – A deputy mediated a dispute over a house to be moved from a rural property.

10/17/13 14:13 – A rural resident reported a grain truck driving in a dangerous manner just west of Vermillion the day before. The information was shared with deputies for increased patrol in that area.

10/17/13 15:52 – The County Highway Department requested deputies provide extra patrol in the area of University Road north of Vermillion due to farm equipment leaving large amounts of mud on the road.

10/17/13 16:49 – A deputy assisted Yankton County with some delinquent juveniles with connections to a Wakonda resident.

10/17/13 19:55 – A deputy investigated a car/deer accident on Highway 46.

10/17/13 20:50 – An inmate was transported from the Clay County Jail to the Yankton County Jail to meet an inmate transport shuttle.

10/18/13 09:00 – The School Resource Officer investigated a report of a stolen cell phone from the girls’ locker room at the high school.

10/18/13 10:41 – A resident requested information regarding what to do with a stray dog picked up near Meckling on Highway 50. A deputy provided information on taking the dog to the Humane Society in Sioux Falls.

10/18/13 21:17 – A deputy observed a vehicle on the Highway 50 Bypass with a non-functioning headlight. The vehicle was stopped and the driver informed of the problem.

10/19/13 16:11 – A deputy responded to a report of a hunter possibly hunting illegally south of Vermillion. The person was not located but the caller later reported he spoke to the hunter and learned he was lawfully hunting. The information was shared with the GFP Conservation Officer.

10/19/13 19:51 – A deputy observed a vehicle operating with a non-functioning headlight west of Vermillion. The vehicle was stopped and the driver was informed of the problem.

10/19/13 21:18 – A deputy investigated an accident on Bluff Road where a vehicle struck a stray calf on the highway. The calf was killed. There were no injuries to the occupants of the vehicle.
