USD women’s basketball expected to place third in Summit League

The University of South Dakota women’s basketball was picked to finish third in the Summit League preseason poll while Nicole Seekamp and Polly Harrington gained preseason league honors in a league release on Tuesday.

The Coyotes placed behind South Dakota State and IUPUI in the team poll. SDSU finished first by receiving 319 points and 27 first-place votes while IUPUI finished second with 276 points and three first-place votes. The Coyotes (224), Fort Wayne (179) and Denver (169) rounded out the top-five.

Seekamp, last season’s Summit League Tournament MVP, earned preseason first team All-Summit League honors while Harrington was named to the second team. Seekamp averaged 14.9 points and 4.0 rebounds per game last season, while Harrington averaged 11.1 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. No team had more than two players named to the preseason teams.

USD will start the season on Nov. 8 at Cal State Fullerton.
