Vermillion – Karen Sorensen, clinic reception, Sanford Vermillion, was selected as the Sanford Vermillion November 2013 PRIDE Employee of the Month. She has been employed here since February 2007.
Nominations for Sorensen included the following comments:
Personalized Service: Karen has lived in Vermillion her whole life and is a familiar face to many of our patients. That alone makes people more comfortable when they have “one of their own” helping to take care of them. She has also been a receptionist long enough that our returning patients recognize her. Our new customers automatically feel more at ease with her cheerful smile and attitude.
Respect: I feel Karen showed a great deal of respect for her supervisor to be willing to step up to the challenge of taking on some of those responsibilities temporarily.
Innovation: Taking on these added responsibilities is not exactly new for Karen – but her supervisor felt comfortable in placing those duties in her capable hands.
Dedication: Karen showed that she is a dedicated employee by giving her co-workers someone they could depend on, look up to, and to lead them by example.
Excellence: Karen answered the challenge without missing a beat – as though she had been handling the added duties all along; she lead staff meetings, handled internal and external issues; and a number of other additional duties.
Additional Comments: We appreciate Karen’s calm demeanor and her quiet efficiency as she kept the clinic running smoothly during this busy time when USD was just getting back into the new academic year.
“I am very happy that Karen has received this award. She works well with everyone and is very deserving of Employee of the Month recognition,” said Theresa Bendert, clinic office manager, Sanford Vermillion.
Karen is a native of Vermillion and lives here with two sons, Wyatt (7) and Hunter (6). She enjoys spending time with her family, going to her kids’ activities and doing anything outdoors.
