On Dec. 19, the Vermillion boys’ basketball team started off slow in the first quarter, but came back with a vengeance in the second. They never looked back on their way to a 49-35 victory.
Jayce Huska again led the scoring with 15 points. He also added a pair of rebounds, 1 steal and 4 assists. Nick Jenson had 11 points and 8 rebounds.
Carter Andre had 10 points, four rebounds and two assists. Tyler Harper added five points and three rebounds. Jefferson Galvin had four points and two rebounds. Matt Ouellette had two points and one rebound. Paul Schwasinger added two points, and Cooper Williams had two assists.
As a team, Vermillion shot 35 percent from the field (15 of 43), while Wagner also shot 35 percent (14 of 40). The Tanager shot 36 percent (5 of 14) from 3-point range, while the Red Raiders were only 15 percent (2 of 8) from beyond the arc. Vermillion was 88 percent (14 of 16) for free-throws, while Wagner was 63 percent (5 of 8). Vermillion had 22 rebounds, while Wagner grabbed 21 boards.
The Tanagers (2-0) next travel to Parkston on Dec. 30 to participate in the Parkston Classic. They will take on the Mount Vernon/Plankinton Titans (3-0) at 4:30 p.m.
