Vermillion’s gymnastics team traveled to Sioux Falls for their season opener to take on a AA school.
“Sioux Falls Lincoln is not a team we compete against for our region or state so it is a good meet to get our feet wet and just try to get the nerves out of the way,” said new coach Skye Bork. “Our varsity had a great starting meet and we went out and tried new skills and really pushed our limits.”
The Tanager’s overall score was 109 points in the Varsity competition. Anna Hammond placed fourth on bars. Anneliese Taggart placed fifth on bars, third on beam, fourth on floor and fourth in the all around.
“Our JV girls placed on every event except for bars (as we had no competitors),” said Bork.
Kayla Erickson (fifth), Tomalyn Peckham (third), and Sydney Tigert (first) all placed on vault; Taylor Webber (fourth) and Sydney Tigert (third) placed on beam; and Tomalyn Peckham (fourth) and Peyton Larson (first) placed on floor.
“The girls did so well, and I couldn’t have asked for better from them,” said Bork.
This Tanager team will next travel to Wagner on Dec. 14 to compete in the Wagner Invitational.
“We have a week and a half before our next meet which, is a significant amount of time for us to make some adjustments before meeting three other teams in our region,” said Bork.
