The Vermillion gymnastics team traveled to Sioux Falls on Dec. 20 to take on Sioux Falls Roosevelt, West Central and Alcester-Hudson.
The triangular was won by Sioux Falls Roosevelt (139.55 points), with Vermillion in second (123.6 points), and West Central in third (117.6 points). Alcester-Hudson has only one athlete, so no team score was earned.
The Rough Riders were led by Karleigh Sudenga’s 35.20 points in the All-Around. She was first in beam, second in bars and vault, and fourth in floor.
“The meet against Roosevelt was fantastic,” said Coach Skye Bork. “The girls are really improving every meet. We have gained 14 points from our first meet and we are still gaining skills in the practice room.”
Both Anna Hammond (31.95 points) and Anneliese Taggart (31.55 points) had qualifying All-Around scores. They both need two more to pre-qualify for state. Carter Williams (31.55 points) was very close to her first qualifying score behind an almost perfect vault score (8.00 points).
Other All-Around scores for the Tanagers were: Carter Williams (30.80 points), Hope Knedler (28.55 points) and Maddie Lavin (24.55 points).
With a couple girls still out with injury, the team hopes to improve even more when they return.
The JV team had some positive results. Sydney Tigert scored 6.40 in floor, 7.90 in vault, 7.05 in beam and 23.35 in all-around. Taylor Webber scored 18 points in the all-around. Tonalyn Peckham and Kayla Erickson each scored 7.4 in vault.
The Tanagers’ next meet is when they host the Winter Wonderland on Dec. 28, starting at 11:30 a.m.
“It is a fantastic meet to compete in and watch, as we see every State A team except Deuel and Madison,” said Bork.
