On Jan. 14, the Tanager gymnasts hosted the state’s best team in the back gym. The Madison Bulldogs won the team score, won each event, and won the all-around. But this was not a bad night for the Tanagers.
Madison is ranked #1 in Class A, and is ranked #3 when A and AA are combined. The great news for the home team is that they played up to the competition. The Bulldogs scored 137.45, while the Tanagers scored 122.30.
“Our girls fared exceptional against them,” said Vermillion Coach Skye Bork, “as we placed at least one girl in every event and some towards the top of the pack.”
Anneliese Taggart got a qualifying score on floor 8.5 as well as Carter Williams with an 8.6 on vault. Anna Hammond, Anneliese Taggart and Carter Williams were all less than a point away from qualifying scores in the All-Around.
“Our score bumped us up three places in the rankings to seventh,” said Bork, “pushing Hot Springs, Sisseton and Wagner down to eighth, ninth and 10th respectively.”
Their next meet is Saturday, Jan. 18, at noon in Madison. This is the largest “A” invite this year and we will see all but two teams in the state
