Vermillion boys bounce Bon Homme 72-67

TYNDALL – The Tanagers clipped the Cavaliers by 5 on Jan. 14. Vermillion survived a late fourth quarter surge by Bon Homme to win 72-67. Four Tanagers scored in double figures, led again by seniors Tyrell Harper and Nick Jensen, who almost had double-doubles.

Jensen scored 19 points, grabbed 9 rebounds, had 2 assists and 2 steals. Harper scored 16 points, grabbed 9 boards and 3 assists. Cooper Williams had 11 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists. Jayce Huska also scored 11 points, grabbed 2 rebounds and had 3 assists.

Jeremiah Johnson had 8 points, one rebound and one assist. Carter Andre scored 4 points, had 2 rebounds and 4 assists. Paul Schwasinger scored 3 points.

The Cavaliers were led by Scott Van Winkle with a double-double with 17 points and 10 assists. Jon Bertlett contributed 16 points in the loss.

The Tanagers were better on the boards, out-rebounding the Cavaliers 31-23. Because Bon Homme fouled more (16-9) than Vermillion, Vermillion made 18 of 21 free-throws, compared to Bon Homme making only 9 of 12.

Vermillion next travels to Lennox (3-4) on Jan. 17 at 7:45 p.m. They then host Elk Point/Jefferson (2-5) at 8 p.m. on Jan 21. The Tanagers already won the matchup at EPJ 61-46 on Jan. 9.
