VERMILLION – West Central tried to make a game of it Jan. 9 by outscoring the undefeated Tanagers in the fourth quarter. It was to little, to late for the Trojans, having fallen 17 points short of winning their first game of the season.
Tyrell Harper led the Tanagers with a double-double, scoring 18 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. He also had 3 steals and 3 assists. Nick Jensen added 16 points, 5 rebounds and one steal. Jayce Huska scored 9 points, grabbed 4 rebounds and had 5 assists.
Cooper Williams had 8 points, 5 rebounds, one steal and 7 assists. Carter Andre scored 5 points and grabbed 4 boards. Paul Schwasinger had 2 points, 2 rebounds, 3 steals and one assist. Jeremiah Johnson had 2 points, one rebound and one steal.
Jensen got into early foul trouble in the second quarter, which limited the big man’s time on the court. Fortunately, he was still able to score effectively. Several teammates also stepped up to pick up the slack, making the Tanagers a dangerous and versatile team.
