MADISON – The Tanager gymnastics team traveled to Madison on Jan. 18 to compete in the 8-team Madison Invitational. Scoring 112.2 points, they placed 7th with two new faces on the varsity team.
“Team and individual scores were low at this meet,” said Coach Skye Bork, “but we are hoping that we can come together and perform in Yankton on Thursday. Thursday’s meet and our meet on Feb. 3 against Wagner and West Central will the our last regular season meets this year.”
The two new varsity members are Sydney Tigert, who competed in the all-around, and Payton Larson, who competed in the floor exercise.
“Both gymnasts did an outstanding job stepping in at the last minute for such a large invitational,” said Bork.
Carter Williams placed 8th on beam and floor. Anneliese Taggart, Carter Williams, and Anna Hammond have qualifying scores, but need to use the next two meets to solidify their trip to the state individual day before they head to regions.
Gymnasts can qualify by placing in the top 50 percent of competitors for each event, by being in the top 5 all-around scores, or attaining a 31.00 all-around score.
“I have high hopes for all the gymnasts coming into the last leg of our season,” said Bork.
