Donna May Chamberlain was born Feb. 25, 1939, in Burbank, to Chester and Gladys (McLain) Chamberlain. She married James R. Johnson in Vermillion on Oct. 16, 1955. She attended elementary schools in Union and Clay County, SD, and high school in Vermillion. Throughout her life she had lived in South Dakota, Iowa, Washington, and Nebraska. For 32 years of her life she was a wife, mother and grandparent and later was employed at SIC, Davis Pharmacy and Sioux Valley Vermillion Campus, all in Vermillion, retiring in January of 2001. Throughout her life she had enjoyed drawing, painting, creative crafts, reading, genealogy and spending time with family and friends. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Vermillion.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Gerald Chamberlain; and a grandson, Cory Dean Burrell.
She is survived by her two daughters, Cindy L. (Fred) Balleweg and Cheri L. (Ronnie) Ahrendt all of Vermillion; and a son, Marty J. (Susan) Johnson of Meckling. Also three sisters, Barbara (Monroe) Gibbs of Cottonwood, AZ, Norma Huebner of Sioux City, IA, and Helen (Denny) Hays of Burbank; and a brother, Jerald (Bernice) Chamberlain of Vermillion; and five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7, 2014, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Vermillion with burial of ashes at a later date. Visitation was 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, at the Hansen Funeral Home in Vermillion. hansenfuneralhome.com.
