James Bennett Prosser
James Bennett Prosser, 78, of Vermillion died April 24, 2008 at Sanford Vermillion Hospital. He was born Oct. 17, 1929 in Chicago, IL to John McClure and Irene (Jensen) Prosser.

He attended school in Sioux Falls, and received a BS from Springfield College and a masters degree in education from USD. Jim taught three years in Centerville and 29 years in Vermillion, primarily mathematics.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #2, OES Juno Chapter #44 of Vermillion

He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Vermillion. Jim served two terms in the U.S. Army.

He married Jean Ann Maltby Oct. 20, 1950 in Alexandria. He became an avid sports announcer and statistician at Vermillion High School and USD. He participated in summer theatre musicals. Please read the tribute written by the Plain Talk editor David Lias, at www.plaintalk.net on Dec. 7, 2007.

Jim is survived by his wife, Jean Ann of Vermilion, of 58 years; sons, Michael (Linda) of Sioux City, IA, Gary (Sheila) of Vermillion, and David (Laura) of Sturgis; sister, Carol Prouty of Seattle, WA, grandchildren, Molly, Emma, Collin, Paige, Kelsey, Bennett and Lynsey; nieces, Elizabeth and Kathleen; nephews, Allen and Brian.

A memorial service was held April 26, 2008 at the First Methodist Church, Vermillion.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Richard; grandson, Brett Prosser; nephews, Brian and Morgan Williamson.
